Children on the Move
A Movement Skills Programme for Children with Special Needs

Children on the Move is a therapy programme designed to improve each individual child's movement skills, co-ordination, and fitness through fun games and play. The programme uses systematic instructional learning and positive communication techniques to provide that extra guidance and assistance needed by children with special needs.

reported that children who are poorly
coordinated are disadvantaged in the academic, athletic, social, and physical appearance domains. Hence, the motivation behind Children on the Move is to identify the needs and goals of children and design programmes to enhance their cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development.

Upon enrolling in the programme, the child's movement abilities and skills are formally assessed by a kinesiologist or movement specialist with a standard battery of tasks. The child's interests and goals together with his/her educational and medical history will be taken. Based on the information gathered, each child will have a programme that is uniquely designed for his/her skill level and age.

We offer two programme structures:

Individual Programme

  • Pre-evaluation of child's motor abilities
  • The child will have a programme specially tailored to meet his/her needs and goals
  • The child will have the undivided attention of the kinesiologist or movement specialist on a one-to-one basis
  • A minimum of a 12-session intensive programme is designed to address specific movement skills where the child needs guidance and further develop the more proficient skill sets he/she already possesses
  • Home play activities will be given to parents for follow-up
  • Post-evaluation of child's motor abilities

Group Programme

Within the group programme, we offer two structures. Regardless of the structure, all the children are grouped according to their movement skill levels and ages.

  1. Two Children Per Instructor
  • Individual pre-evaluation of child's motor abilities
  • Child will be teamed with another child of similar ability level and age group
  • The programme is tailored to the needs and goals of both children
  • A minimum of a 12-session intensive program is designed to address specific movement skills where the children need guidance and further develop the more proficient skill sets they already possess
  • Home play activities will be given to parents for follow-up
  • Individual post-evaluation of child's motor abilities

  1. Four Children Per Instructor
  • Individual pre-evaluation of child's motor abilities
  • Child will be teamed with another three children of similar ability level and age group
  • The program is tailored to the common needs and goals of all four children
  • A minimum of a 12-session intensive programme is designed to address common movement skills where the children need guidance and further develop the more proficient skill sets they already possess
  • Home play activities will be given to parents for follow-up
  • Individual post-evaluation of child's motor abilities
